Many on the Autism Spectrum are also diagnosed with Epilepsy. Epilepsy is a disease that arises because the brain's electrical impulses are not working properly. Unfortunately this is very common among our Autistic friends. Here are a few facts regarding this serious disease.
*Individuals experience epilepsy in many different ways because their seizures can occur in many different ways. *The four basic treatments for epilepsy are drug therapy, vagus nerve stimulation, surgery, and a ketogenic diet, with drug therapy being the most common. *Even if an individual is seizure free for many years, their tendency to have a seizure in the future will be greater than a person who has never had a seizure.

NCCALL, Inc. was asked by the Epilepsy Foundation and Mission Childrens Hospital to participate in their "Fall Stroll 09". It was a fun way to help educate the public regarding Epilepsy. Many persons diagnosed with ASD also have a seizure disorder. Our volunteer "Autists" enjoyed the opportunity to help the Epilepsy Foundation with their cause.
